Peruse Magazine
— Editorial

Cinema is a form of art, and thus is a way of expressing our ideas, and putting them into audiovisual media. Yet few know the inspirations behind their favourite films or the message it’s trying to tell. Peruse is a publication I’ve created that is dedicated to exploring the intersections between film and its deeper meanings. This issue explores Japan’s influence in film-making around the world and the use of symbolism in cult classics.

Inspired by traditional the Japanese writing system and their publications (Novels and Manga), Peruse Magazine is designed to be read from right-to-left, and designed with a ‘manga-esque’ art style. It explores Japan’s most prominent filmmakers and the influence their films had on western cinema and delves into references and symbolism used in Japanese cinema that was based on real life events which happened in mid 90s Japan.
